Prof. Francesco Caravenna, lecturer in Probability and Mathematical Statistics in the Department of Mathematics and Applications, will participate as speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2026.

The International Congress of Mathematicians is the most important international conference on mathematics. It is held every four years to bring together the international community to discuss the latest progress in the field. The 2026 edition will be held in Philadelphia, July 23-30.

"It is a great honor to have been invited to the International Congress of Mathematicians, the world's most important conference dedicated to mathematics. It will be a special opportunity to present some ideas born from years of work in the field of probability and its connections with other disciplines, inside and outside mathematics - commented Prof. Caravenna - This has also been possible thanks to a fruitful scientific collaboration with colleagues Rongfeng Sun (National University of Singapore) and Nikos Zygouras (University of Warwick): I will give a joint talk with them. I'm happy to be representing my University in such a prestigious context."

Prof. Caravenna is one of three mathematicians of Italian institutions invited as speaker at the 2026 edition of the ICM and the only one from a Milan University; a reward for the quality of research conducted at the University of Milano-Bicocca. Prof. Caravenna's research activity is focused on Probability Theory and its applications, with particular reference to Statistical Mechanics, Stochastic Equations and Aleatory Walks. Winner of the Fubini Prize in 2011, he served on the editorial board of the journal Annals of Applied Probability (2019-2024) and since 2018 he has been a member of the editorial board of the journal Annales de l'Institut Henri Poincaré.
