Our Cultural and Strategic Vision

The Department of Mathematics and Applications at the University of Milano-Bicocca is dedicated to advancing research in mathematics and its applications, educating high-calibre students, and enhancing the role of mathematics in society.

We aim to be a leading centre for mathematical research, driving knowledge advancement and technological innovation in collaboration with both national and international scientific communities. Our mission includes training competent students who can effectively transmit mathematical knowledge and organizing initiatives to engage the public in exploring mathematics and its connections to other fields of knowledge.

We promote an interdisciplinary environment for research and teaching, where experts from various fields collaborate to address scientific challenges and provide comprehensive training. Our research spans a wide range of topics, from traditional areas to the cutting-edge frontiers of mathematics, organized into the following areas:

  • Combinatorial and Homological Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Harmonic and Geometric Analysis
  • Non-Linear Analysis
  • Probability
  • Mathematical Physics
  • Numerical Analysis
  • Mathematical Methods of Economics

We are committed to promoting equal opportunities, ensuring that everyone has equal conditions for participation in academic life, personal growth, and acquisition of skills necessary for inclusion in economic, political, and social life, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.

To foster scientific excellence, we encourage our members to participate in competitive funding opportunities and promote scientific collaboration and communication initiatives. We emphasize support for junior staff and researchers with temporary contracts, allocating dedicated funds to assist them.

Our educational offerings include a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Mathematics, providing students with a robust theoretical and technical foundation, and preparing them for careers in academia, education, industry, technology, and finance. Additionally, in collaboration with the University of Pavia, the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, and INDAM, we offer a Doctorate Consortium in Mathematics, stimulating the interest and participation of national and international students and researchers through co-tutorship theses and collaborative projects.

The Department of Mathematics and Applications at the University of Milano-Bicocca is committed to contributing to scientific and technological progress, educating future generations, and disseminating mathematical knowledge.
