Wednesday 23 October 2024 at 4:30 pm, as part of the Insalate di Matematica seminar cycle, Lorenzo Putignano (University of Florence) will talk about

Title: Combinatorial tales

Abstract: In this talk I will give an overview on the representation theory of the Symmetric Group and a family of related algebras known as Ariki-Koike algebras. The aim of the talk is to underline the fundamental influence of combinatorics on the subject and to show how purely algebraic information can be easily detected using combinatorial tools. At the end I will mention a result about Iwahori-Hecke algebras of type B and their blocks. This is a joint work with Matthew Fayers (Queen Mary University of London).

Keywords: Combinatorics, Algebra
