The Veech 2-circle problem
Thursday 7 May 2026, at 3 pm in Room U3-10 (U3 Building | Piazza della Scienza 2, Milano), Prof. William Chen (Macquarie University) will hold the following talk
Title: The Veech 2-circle problem
Abstract: Colour two circles in the same way by making an arc red and the rest green. Start somewhere on one of the circles. At each step, rotate by a fixed angle $\alpha$. If the image lands on a red point, stay put at that point. If it lands on a green point, move to the corresponding point on the other circle. This gives rise to a sequence of points on the two circles. What can we say about the distribution of this sequence?
