The Department of Mathematics and Applications was founded in January 1999 with the purpose to promote and coordinate research in mathematics and to provide university courses The department consists of 14 full professors, 15 associate professors, 13 researchers. The Director is Prof. G. Falqui.
The Department organizes an annual program of scientific activities in the areas of mathematical research. The research of the Department is organized in six main fields: Algebra, Geometry, Harmonic and Functional Analysis, Calculus of Variations and Partial Differential Equations, Analytical Mechanics and Dynamical Systems, Numerical Analysis and Algorithms. The corresponding research groups are actively involved in national and international scientific life and maintain a strong network of scientific relations with individual researchers, groups, centers of excellence and Italian and foreign research institutions. The scientific production of the Department has been recognized by the international scientific community and the results achieved have found publication on the most prestigious journals.
The Department is home to the PhD in Pure and Applied Mathematics in consortium with the University of Pavia.
